Don’t get caught out by the taxman
HMRC recently unveiled a plethora of changes to its penalties and regulations, as well as proposed increases in its powers and capabilities. See the PDF factsheet which provides a roundup of some of the most significant changes affecting business and individuals, including the new penalties for late filing.

Tax investigation
The renewal date for the tax investigation service we offer has now passed - however if you have not yet renewed it is not too late to do so. The service provides cover against our fees in the event of an HMRC full investigation into your accounting records but also covers up to £1,000 if we need to attend or assist in a routine HMRC VAT or PAYE compliance visit. These do seem to be becoming more regular as HMRC attempt to claw in funds from identifying errors and non-declarations. Please contact us if you wish to find out more about this cover.

Sage users
Sage have announced end of life for version13 and next year version 14. This means you will not be able to upgrade these versions unless you do so now. Also if you are buying a new computer operating on a "64 bit system" then whilst old versions of Sage will load, the data will corrupt when read through. Sage are currently offering 40% discounts on upgrades now and I can usually manage to pass on some additional discount if the order is placed through Liric - so please check your versions and let me know if you require an upgrade.
